Cetyl Myristoleate is the cetyl ester of myristoleic acid. It has multiple biological properties and is used as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, as well as an immune system modulator. It was discovered in the early 1960’s by Harry W. Diehl. Mr. Diehl was a research chemist working in sugar metabolism at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Chemistry of the National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolic, and Digestive Disease. Dr. Diehl studied the seeming immunity of mice to arthritis, and discovered cetyl myristoleate (CM8™) through his investigations, testing and analysis.
Mr. Diehl received three patents on CMO and attempted to market it to various pharmaceutical companies, none of which were interested. Consequently his discovery sat on the shelf collecting dust until 1991 when he, himself, developed arthritis.
As Diehl got older; he began to experience some osteoarthritis in his hands, knees, and the heels of his feet. After having run out of conventional methods to alleviate the condition Diehl said, "I thought about my discovery, and I decided to make a batch and use it on myself." He did, and the symptoms of osteo-arthritis disappeared. Cetyl myristoleate appeared on the market as a supplement in 1991.
Although not as well known as glucosamine and/or chondroitin, there is a growing awareness that cetyl myristoleate equals or surpasses them in the relief of the body pains brought on by various maladies such as bursitis, gout, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and sports-related injuries.
Our supplier, EHP Products, was started, and is still owned, by Harry Diehl’s family. Their formulations offer the highest concentration of CMO on the market today and have helped thousands of people with relief of arthritic symptoms.
